martin madaus

Martin Madaus , President and CEO, Millipore

Dr. Madaus joined Millipore in January 2005 as President and Chief Executive Officer and became Chairman of the Board in March 2005. Dr. Madaus came to Millipore from Roche Diagnostics Corporation where, as President and Chief Executive Officer (2000–2004), he was responsible for the North American Operations. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Business Development for Roche Molecular Diagnostics. Dr. Madaus joined Roche in 1998 when he was general manager of Boehringer Mannheim Canada in Montreal, Quebec, through the acquisition of Boehringer Mannheim by Roche.

 

From 1989 to 1998, Dr. Madaus worked at Boehringer Mannheim in senior management, sales and marketing, and product management roles both in Germany and in the United States. Dr. Madaus is a director of the Massachusetts High Technology Council, the New England Healthcare Institute, the Massachusetts Workforce Development Investment Board, and the YMCA of Greater Boston. Dr. Madaus is a native of Hamburg, Germany (naturalized American citizen), and holds a D.V.M. and Ph.D. in veterinary medicine.

michael gillenwater

Michael Gillenwater , Dean, Greenhouse Gas Management Institute

Michael is the co-founder and Dean of the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute. He also founded the Greenhouse Gas Experts Network and serves as its Executive Director. Both non-profit organizations are focused on training, and professionalizing the community of experts working on measuring, accounting, and managing greenhouse gas emissions. Michael is also actively engaged in the training experts for the Kyoto Protocol and UNFCCC Secretariat and supports the Clean Development Mechanism and Joint Implementation program as a methodology expert. He is a lead author of several IPCC reports and core advisor on the GHG Protocol. He co-established the U.S. Greenhouse Gas Inventory Program at the U.S. EPA, where his work on climate change began. He is completing a PhD in the Science, Technology and Environmental Policy Program at Princeton University, where his research focuses on the design of environmental commodities.

tom baumann

Tom Bauman, Director of Professional Programs, Greenhouse Gas Management Institute

Tom is Co-Founder and Director of Professional Programs of the GHG Management Institute. He is responsible for establishing the programs for membership and to train and accredit GHG professionals. He is a significant contributor to the development of the GHG standards and training courses based on the ISO 14064 GHG Standards, WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol, and UNFCCC CDM projects. Tom is the lead author of ISO 14064 Part 2 International Standard for Carbon Offset Credit Projects. Tom is also Co-Founder and CEO of ClimateCHECK, a for-profit GHG management company. Prior to founding ClimateCHECK, Tom was Director of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Climate Change Services in North America. Prior to DNV, Tom was the GHG Manager for a Clean Technology Investment Fund with over 140 projects and total investment in excess of $1.2 billion. Tom has degrees in environmental engineering and environmental economics. He is a professional engineer registered in Ontario, Canada.

ian bowles

Ian Bowles, Secretary, Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs

Bowles served in the Clinton Administration as Associate Director of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and as Senior Director of the Global Environmental Affairs directorate at the National Security Council. Following his service in the Clinton Administration, Bowles held appointments as a Senior Research Fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and as Senior Advisor at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, a multibillion dollar charitable foundation established by Intel Corp. co-founder Gordon Moore. Bowles also served as President & CEO of MassINC, a Boston-based research institute, and as Publisher of CommonWealth magazine.

 

Earlier in his career, Bowles was Vice President of Conservation International, a leading national conservation organization. Bowles played a key role in the creation of one of the world’s largest tropical forest national parks: the four million acre Central Suriname Nature Reserve. Bowles began his career as a Legislative Assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives. Secretary Ian Bowles oversees the Commonwealth’s six environmental, natural resource and energy regulatory agencies. Massachusetts is the first state in the nation to combine energy and environmental agencies under one Cabinet secretary.

 

He also serves as Chairman of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and Chairman of the Energy Facilities Sitting Board. A Cape Codder, Bowles grew up in Woods Hole and is a graduate of Falmouth High School. He holds an A.B. in economics cum laude from Harvard College and a Masters degree from Oxford University, where he remains an adjunct member of the teaching faculty at the graduate school of the Environment and Geography. He has an honorary Doctorate from Emerson College.

Rebecca L Thornburn, Green IT Global Marketing Manager, Dell Inc.

Rebecca is responsible for crafting and driving Dell’s overall green marketing strategy and messages. In this role she works with a broad set of Dell internal organizations including product marketing, product engineering, services, corporate communications, government relations, Sustainability, Dell IT, and facilities. Recent achievements include driving the announcement of Dell’s desktop and laptop energy efficiency goals and the coordination of a series of IT Energy Efficiency Summits which brought together CIOs, policy makers and Dell executives to discuss Green IT. Additionally, Rebecca works with external organizations such as the Climate Savers Computing Initiative and the Technology CEO Council.

 

Rebecca has been with Dell for six years covering a variety of marketing roles. Prior, Rebecca was a strategy consultant with IBM’s Strategy and Change organization for five years. Rebecca holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts from Denison University.

Bella Tonkonogy

Bella Tonkonogy, Program Manager, Climate Leaders, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Bella is a Program Manager with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders program, an industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop comprehensive climate change strategies. Ms. Tonkonogy is responsible for negotiating aggressive greenhouse gas reduction goals with industry, providing technical support to companies preparing greenhouse gas inventories, and evaluating the program’s effectiveness. Prior to joining EPA, she was a researcher at the Harvard School of Public Health. Ms. Tonkonogy holds a B.A. with distinction from the University of California-Berkeley and a M.Sc. with distinction from Imperial College London.

Jere Zimmerman, Director, Safety, Health and Environment, Molson Coors Brewing Company

Jere has twenty years of experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety field, including thirteen years in leadership of people and programs. She has worked at Coors since 1985 in areas including Research and Development, Process Engineering, Operations Optimization, Energy, Environment, and Health & Safety. For the last eight years she has served as the Director of Corporate Safety, Health & Environment for Coors Brewing Company, and in this capacity she won a Copper Kettle Award in recognition of outstanding leadership.

Jere’s leadership experience also includes service on numerous boards and committees, including Colorado Governor’s Pollution Prevention Advisory Board, Colorado Environmental Partnership, Food Industry Environmental conference, Society of Women Engineers, and Coors Employee Giving Campaign for United Way. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Christine Visnic, Director, Air Network Programs, Pfizer Inc.

Christine Visnic is the Director, Air Network Programs for Pfizer Inc. She also leads Pfizer’s efforts for climate change policy and serves on the Company’s Global Energy and Climate Change team. Both the Air Network and the E/CC team are global organizations comprised of Pfizer colleagues located around the world, working together to set and meet key objectives to advance Pfizer’s programs.

 

Christine has more than twenty years of experience in the environmental field. In addition to her 15 years of pharmaceutical experience at both Pfizer and Merck & Co., Inc., she also has agency experience from 3 years in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund program and 3 years working as an environmental engineer in the petroleum industry at Amerada Hess Corporation. Her areas of focus include all aspects of air emissions management, including permitting, control device operation and management systems development. Christine’s current E/CC activities include GHG inventory management, policy and legislative tracking, and advancing Pfizer’s program through employee awareness and communications, internal and external reporting and ongoing efforts to identify and implement additional energy conservation projects. Christine also has experience conducting environmental audits and developing corporate environmental standards for Pfizer’s operations. Christine has a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from West Virginia University.

rich costello

Rich Costello, President, Acela Energy Group

Mr. Costello is the President of Acela Energy Group, an energy consulting group specializing in energy procurement, load management, as well as, energy conservation training, auditing, and on-site wind & solar generation projects. Rich has extensive experience in the fields of load management, utility services, energy conservation, as well as, power, natural gas, and tariff related negotiations and agreements. Rich is a registered professional engineer and was previously the Power Supply Manager for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, as well as, a Senior Engineer in the Load Management Department of Boston Edison.

 

He holds a M.S. in Engineering Management from Western New England College and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. Mr. Costello also conducts Energy Procurement and Management Seminars nationwide for the Association of Energy Engineers. Rich was the National President of the Association for the Year 2000, and recently received the 2003 Energy Professional of the Year Award from the organization. In 2006, Richard was inducted into the Energy Managers Hall of Fame.

Dan Perruzzi, Jr., Principal, Margulies & Associates

Dan is a principal with Margulies & Associates, one of Boston’s most innovative architectural and interior design firms. He has more than twenty-five years of experience as an architect, project manager and principal. Dan has recently managed the design of a 329,000 sqft green office building for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, a client with whom he has worked for 8 years, and is working with real estate developer Hobbs Brook Management on a green 365,000 sqft corporate office campus. Both projects are expected to receive LEED® Silver certification. Dan is also primarily responsible for driving sustainable design efforts within his firm.

Dan Kalafatas

Dan Kalafatas, President, 3Degrees

Based in San Francisco, Dan leads 3Degrees Renewable Energy Certificate, Carbon Product, and Utility Partnership Groups. In this capacity, Dan has relevant experience in all aspects of the REC, Carbon and Utility programs. Dan designed, ran, and launched all of 3Degrees’ utility partnerships. Dan oversees all company operations, including business development, contracting, supply management, and general partnership operations. Dan is invited to speak frequently at conferences on the Renewable Energy Certificate and Carbon Markets as well as on how to structure and manage successful green pricing utility programs. A native of Massachusetts, Dan has a BA in Economics from Dartmouth College, and an MBA with a certificate in Public Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Dave Chamberlain

Dave Chamberlain, Principal Energy Engineer, Raytheon

Dave Chamberlain is an energy expert with over 20 years of experience. Dave currently works for Raytheon as a Principal Energy Engineer. In this role he co-leads Raytheon’s company wide team of energy experts and is responsible for managing a $120 million annual utilities budget and energy policies, strategies and reporting. He also manages the company wide ENERGY STAR partnership with the US EPA and Department of Energy and is the primary energy contact regarding greenhouse gas emissions tracking and reporting.

 

Interspersed in Dave’s 20 year career with Raytheon, he also spent 7 years with the US Department of Energy as a General Engineer. David holds an BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University and has completed additional graduate studies in Energy Engineering at the University of Massachusetts. Dave is a certified Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager and a Certified Green Building Engineer.

Sean West, Program Manager, United Technologies Corp.

Sean is a Program Manager for United Technologies in Hartford, CT in the Environment Health and Safety group responsible for tracking GHG emissions and implementing programs to reduce UTC’s global energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Before moving to EH&S, Sean worked for UTC as Energy Commodity Manager where he managed UTC’s Energy Team and implement energy conservation projects and procurement projects resulting in $30 million dollars in savings over the last five years. Prior to joining UTC in 2001 Sean worked for an electric utility company developing energy conservation programs and managing conservation projects. He graduated Rochester Institute of Technology with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and has an MS in Business Management at Rensselaer.

 

Tiffany Ryan, Senior Eco Practice Consultant, Sun Microsystems

Tiffany Ryan joined Sun two years ago as a Technical Manager, and later Director of Operations, in Professional Services Delivery. She worked directly with customers to create efficiencies through implementation of enterprise solutions, such as SOA and Identity Management. For the five years prior to joining Sun, Tiffany was the owner and partner of a boutique consulting firm and acted as an "executive in residence" helping her clients with product development, sales and marketing. Before running her own company, she worked as a Senior Technical Consultant for Peregrine Systems, both in the US and in Europe, architecting complex solutions from a wide portfolio of infrastructure management software while leveraging the customer's unique blend of previously implemented products.

 

Currently, Tiffany is a Sales Consultant for the Global Eco Practice / Virtualization team, working to empower customers to scale their businesses more economically and more ecologically. With energy prices rising and legislation to limit CO2 on the horizon, the focus on efficiency will likely intensify in the years to come. By addressing design, technology and process, she is helping customers to reduce their operating expenses and CO2 emissions - thereby saving money and the environment. Tiffany is passionate about the environment and stays abreast of latest technologies and legislation that will affect her customers and the market. A long-time member of the Sierra Club, she leads by example, following Gandhi's mantra to "be the change you wish to see in the world" in her personal life and strives to help customers be agents for change in her professional life. Integrity is important to Tiffany, and she enjoys the alignment of her vocation with her values her role provides.
